2 Dead, More Than a Dozen Injured in Fort Myers, Florida Nightclub Shooting


Two people have been killed and at least 16 people have been injured after a shooting at a nightclub in Fort Myers, FL last night (July 24), The BBC reports. The shooting occurred just after midnight at Club Blu, which was reportedly hosting a party for teenagers. Three people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.

According to The BBC, a police statement said injuries “ranged from minor to life-threatening” and that a number of people were in hospital. The scene was described as a “madhouse.”  Additionally, one person suffered a minor injury when shots were fired at a home an a nearby vehicle. The area around Club Blu is now considered to be safe, although roads leading toward the venue have been closed.

CNN reports that police didn’t say how many shots were fired, but at least 36 yellow evidence markers were placed around the front of the club. At least one person died at Lee Memorial hospital, and the hospital said it had received 16 people from the club, ranging in in age from 12 to 27.

Police are still seeking a motive for the shooting.

This shooting comes just six weeks after a gunman killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history. The story is still developing.
