Beyonce is fighting back against a filmmaker who claims she copied elements of his short film for her Lemonade visual album.
As we previously reported, filmmaker Matthew Fulks sued Beyonce and her record label claiming that her Lemonade trailer copies many parts of his 2015 short film called “Palinoia.” The auteur claims that Queen Bey’s 39-second clip features images of graffiti-covered walls, dimly-lit parking garages, a grass scene and other abstract images that are similar to his film.
However, in a countersuit obtained by TMZ, Beyonce insists her Lemonade has a different narrative than Fulks’ movie.
The R&B superstar maintains that her visual project portrays an “African-American woman who progresses through stages of suspicion, denial, anger and, ultimately, reconciliation in her relationship.” On the flip side, “Palinoia” is a depressing movie about a “white man who is distressed in the wake of a failed relationship.”
Beyonce’s Lemonade recently nabbed four Emmy nominations, including one for the singer in the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special category.
