Beyonce Raises More Than $80K For Flint Charity; Offers Educational Assistance to Detroit Students news

Beyonce performs at Ford Field in Detroit tonight (April 14) but before the singer takes the stage, she made good on a promise to the people affected by the city of Flint’s water crisis.

According to reps for the star, Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment presented the United Way of Genesee County with a check for $82,234 on Monday. The money is to aid residents who are still grappling with the city’s tainted water supply. Additionally, high school students from the Detroit area will be receiving money to assist with educational expenses and were also given tickets to Tuesday’s concert.

Fundraising website CrowdRise helped with the initiative, and offered those who donated money through the site a chance to win VIP tickets to Beyonce’s tour.

Fans were given the option to contribute to the Flint fund when purchasing tickets for Beyonce’s tour. In April, it was announced that the Ford Field concert would also include an event to “serve as a celebration of the resourcefulness of the people of Flint and Detroit, Michigan.” Tour stops in Houston and Los Angeles also feature a “signature charity event” in those respective cities.

“The Formation World Tour creates another exciting global opportunity for people everywhere to BeyGOOD, pay it forward and lend support to those in need,” said Ivy McGregor back in April. McGregor is Director of Philanthropy and runs the day-to-day operatives through Parkwood Entertainment. “Through our collaborations with our strategic charity partners, we’ve created simple ways for everyone to participate. Because we believe together we can make the world better – standing, living and giving in Good Formation.”

Beyonce’s 23-date “Formation” Tour closes it’s American leg with Tuesday’s Detroit concert. After that, Beyonce heads to Europe later this month and returns for a second North American leg in September.
