Black Sheep is coming back in the most epic way — they’re performing the entirety of A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing for audiences around the globe.
According to Ambrosia For Heads, Dres and Mista Lawnge are officially reuniting. It’s been 25 years since their debut album A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing announced the duo; who were a part of the famed Native Tongues collective that already featured legendary acts like the Jungle Brothers, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest.
Black Sheep became stars on the strength of their inescapable 90s classic “The Choice Is Yours (Revisited)” and other popular songs from A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing like “Strobelite Honey” and “Flavor of the Month.” After 1994s Non-Fiction failed to duplicate their debut album’s success, the duo parted ways, reuniting occasionally for performances. But this reunion is official and the anniversary is a good time for them to revisit their most beloved work.
“It was time,” Mista Lawnge told Ambrosia For Heads. “Twenty five years is a big celebration of our legacy and we are excited to be able to bring this to our longtime fans.”
Lawnge also talked about the legacy of the album and how they intend to have audiences rocking with them again.
“A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing put Black Sheep on the map so we intend to bring the vibe and energy from this entire album to the stage,” he said. “This will include a lot of humor that our fans know us for with a few surprises along the way.”
Dates and venues are still in the works, but they are asking promoters to reach out to them.
“We’re accepting offers..booking and routing dates for our 25th Anniversary/Reunion tour,” read a recent Instagram post from Dres.
But that’s not all for the duo, who haven’t been on tour since 2005. They’re also hinting at a third studio album in the works.
“I really am excited to see the response we get from this tour and though music [and] Hip-hop has changed drastically as well the issue of samples, I would love to be afforded the opportunity for us to make a [third official album] in the vein of how we did the first two,” said Dres. “It would be costly to clear samples to that degree, but I think [Mista] Lawnge is special in the way that he can fuse sound… I, too, would bring my own special thing to the table [as a producer], for us to offer something that nearly everyone says is missing from the present climate… something golden. [I am] definitely hoping for the best.”
