Britney Spears is back with the first single off her forthcoming new album and reigning queen of pop does not disappoint with “Make Me.” The track finds Spears dipping into familiar territory with slinky backbeats and guitar plucking production courtesy of BURNS that bubbles under the surface of her signature sultry vocals as she begs you to make her “ooh, ooh” on the hook. “I just want you to make me move like it ain’t a choice for you, like you got a job to do,” she sings to make sure you got the point.
Later on the track, Oakland rapper G-Eazy shows up to answer Spears’ request and spits bars on how he will hook up with her anytime. He even takes a moment to fit in a reference to Penélope in Blow. Both artists have been teasing the collaboration for weeks, posting pictures together on social media and teasing their joint venture in interviews. The track has already dethroned Justin Timberlake‘s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the top spot on the iTunes chart.

This isn’t the first time Spears has looked to a rapper to jump on a track. Back in 2015, she teamed up with Iggy Azalea for “Pretty Girls,” although there was some drama around the song when Azalea blamed Spears for the song flopping. “Make Me” is already generating a huge response from fans and sounds like a hit that will build airplay and momentum for Spears as she gears up to release her ninth studio album and highly anticipated follow up to 2013’s Britney Jean.
“[It’s] a little melodic, a little more not so poppy. It’s kind of chill. Very chill,” Spears told E! News when discussing the new album before dubbing it “best thing I’ve done in a long time.”
