Chaka Khan and her sister have reportedly checked into a rehabilitation and aftercare program for an addiction to prescription pain drugs. The veteran R&B singer said the untimely death of her dear friend Prince convinced her that she should go and seek treatment.

According to the Associated Press, Khan has been battle an addiction to the same pain medication that ultimately led to Prince’s death. The 57-year-old music icon died on April 21 from an accidental drug overdose of the powerful opioid painkiller fentanyl, according to the medical examiner’s report.

Khan canceled an upcoming performance at the California State Fair as well as other scheduled concerts through the summer.

“Unfortunately, I will miss concert appearances over the summer,” she said. “However, it’s vital that I put my health and well-being first. I know that I am disappointing some of my fans, but I also know they would want me to recover and be well and healthy.”

Khan’s sister, Yvonne Stevens (aka Taka Boom) also entered in the same program to help support her big sis through her recovery.

“The tragic death of Prince has had us both rethinking and reevaluating our lives and priorities,” said Khan. “We knew it was time to take action to save our lives. My sister and I would like to thank everyone for their support, love and prayers.”

We want to wish Chaka Khan and her sister a speedy recovery as they embark on their journey to good health.
