Chance the Rapper‘s admiration for Kanye West runs deep, which made his contributions to The Life of Pablo that much more monumental as he stole the show on album-opener “Ultralight Beam” and also co-wrote on four other songs. In his June/July cover story with Complex, the 23-year-old rapper spoke highly of his fellow Chi-Town brethren when asked whether artists should publicly boast about their accomplishments, which is something ‘Ye is known to do from time to time.

“There’s not really a responsibility to tell people of your accomplishments, but I think in Kanye’s situation…it’s Kanye West,” Chance explains. “If I was the greatest artist of this generation, and the few past generations, and a few generations going forward, I’d probably say it all the time, especially if I was black and people didn’t really like me. I’d be like, ‘Let me remind you all the fucking time.'”

Chance is working toward building upon his own legacy with the impending release of Chance 3, and if it’s anything like Acid Rap or Surf, fans should be in for a treat.
