Childish Gambino Joins the Cast of 'Spider Man: Homecoming' news

Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, is said to be joining the cast of Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Some may remember when Spider-Man was being recast for Amazing Spider-Man roughly six years ago, there was a popular Twitter campaign (#Donald4Spiderman) for Glover to be the new Spider-Man.  But while many were in support of Glover, several people weren’t keen on the idea of a black web-slinger. Glover didn’t land the role, but partly fulfilled his dreams by voicing Miles Morales as Spider-Man on Disney XD’s animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.

Now Glover will reportedly be appearing in the new Spidey movie.

The details of the character Glover will play is still a mystery; as no information has been released yet regarding his specific role in the film. But we know he won’t be playing Spider-Man. Tom Hollandscored the lead role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, first appearing in the hugely successful Captain America: Civil War. Now Holland takes center-stage as the story takes the character back to high-school.

Others have quietly been casted thus far as well including Michael Keaton as a villain, Zendaya as the female lead, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May (also reprising her role from Civil War, with Tony Revolori, who starred in The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Robert Downey Jr. making an appearance as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Glover also co-starred on the cult comedy Community and appeared in Magic Mike XXL as The Martian. He also has the highly-anticipated FX series, Atlanta, which is due to air in September.
