Age is definitely nothing but a number, especially for legendary rock star, Chuck Berry. The 90-year-old celebrated his birthday this past Tuesday (Oct. 18), by announcing his first album in 38 years with Chuck.
The overdue project is slated to be released 2017 under Dualtone Records. Also, it is said to be dedicated to his wife of 68 years, Themetta Berry.
“This record is dedicated to my beloved Toddy,” Berry said in a statement. “My darlin’, I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!”
This album is the first project for Berry since his 1979 release Rock It. Berry’s work ethic is still sharp as ever, considering he wrote and produced all of the new records for Chuck on his own. He also made his new release a family affair, as he tapped his children Charles Berry Jr. and Ingrid Berry as they played the guitar and the harmonica respectively. Berry also nabbed his guitarist of 40 years Jimmy Marsala, pianist Robert Lohr, and drummer Keith Robinson.
“What an honor to be part of this new music,” Charles Berry Jr. said in a statement. “The St. Louis band, or as dad called us ‘the Blueberry Hill Band,’ fell right into the groove and followed his lead. These songs cover the spectrum from hard driving rockers to soulful thought provoking time capsules of a life’s work.”
