New music alert! Common is ready to serve fans with a new album.

The 44-year-old hip-hop vet announced the project in a Instagram video last night (May 11). After thanking his fans for coming out to his shows and kicking a verse with shoutouts to Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, and Bob Marley, Common revealed that a new album is in the works.

“I’m geeked up about the new project,” he said after saying that he’s “working on some music.” The LP will serve as a follow-up to 2014’s Nobody’s Smiling.

This won’t be the first time that we’ve heard from Com in the past two years though. Last year, the Chicago rhymer headlined the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival last year. As for 2016, Com teamed up with Ice Cube to put aside their differences for a track, “Real People.” Common also addressed the water crisis in Flint, Michigan with the Malik Yusef-featured track, “Trouble in the Water.”

There’s no word on who will be handling the production duties on his new album. Hopefully, the “Glory” rapper will enlist his fellow Chicago brethren No I.D. and Kanye West for the project.

However, with the return of Common to the rap game, many are wondering about his battle with Drake. Now that Drizzy is in full “Beard Drake” mode (and annihilated Meek Mill), it’s unclear whether or not the beef will pick back up.

Either way are you excited about hearing new music from Com?
