Daveed Diggs, Renee Elise Goldsberry to Leave 'Hamilton' news

Hamilton is losing two more principals. As AP reports, Daveed Diggs, who plays Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, and Renée Elise Goldsberry, who portrays Angelica Schuyler, are both leaving the wildly popular Broadway musical.

Both actors won Tonys for their roles in the hit hip-hop musical. Diggs is slated to depart on July 15th. Goldsberry is expected to leave in the fall. The pair joins a growing list of high profile departures, including creator and original lead star Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr. and Phillipa Soo, all of whom gave their final performances last Saturday. Replacements for Diggs and Goldsberry have not yet been revealed.

Meanwhile, the multiple Tony-Award-winning musical is gearing up for a highly anticipated Chicago run at PrivateBank Theatre, beginning September 27th. On Wednesday, the producers announced some of its Chicago principals, including Broadway veterans Miguel Cervantes, Karen Olivo and Alexander Gemignani.

“I am thrilled to be playing the role of Angelica in the first production of Hamilton outside of New York,” Olivo told Chicago Tribune. “Even more exciting is being able to do it in Chicago – I cannot wait for Chicago audiences to enjoy the show and explore the beautiful city myself.”

Cervantes, who will assume the title Alexander Hamilton role, previously starred in If/Then and American Idiot. Tony-Award-winning Olivo will play Angelica Schuyler and Gemignani portrays King George III. Other previously announced Chicago cast members include Ari Afsar (Eliza Hamilton), Chris Lee (Lafayette/Jefferson), Jose Ramos (John Laurens/Phillip Hamilton), Wallace Smith (Hercules Mulligan/James Madison) and Samantha Marie Ware (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds).

Beyond Chicago, a touring production will head to San Francisco in 2017 for a 21-week run before it goes on to Los Angeles. A London production is also planned for 2017.
