Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas Cancel Shows in North Carolina Due to States Anti LGBT Law news

Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato have become the latest artists to cancel scheduled concerts in North Carolina due to the state’s anti-LGBT law. “After much thought and deliberation, we have decided to cancel our Honda Civic: Future Now shows in Raleigh and Charlotte,” Nick shared in a message on Twitter. “One of our goals for the tour have always been to create an atmosphere where every single attendee feels equal, included, and accepted for who they are.”

The note goes on to explain how they believe the law—called HB2—is discriminatory against LGBT people, and that they couldn’t hold their concerts in the state in good faith. They apologize to their fans for the disappointment, but call on them all to stand up against the HB2 legislation in the state.

They join a growing list of artists to cancel concerts in North Carolina, including Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, and Ringo Starr. Other musicians have said that they will play there, but donate the proceeds to charity. HB2 forbids cities in North Carolina from setting their own anti-discrimination ordinances beyond those of the state. It also bans cities from raising their minimum wages and stops people from being able to sue for discrimination claims in state court.
