Diddy’s life is an eventful one and this song is a testament to that. On the new track, Diddy talks about the death of The Notorious B.I.G. (“why the f— we went to Cali, n—-s wasn’t ready”), the infamous green Versace dress worn by Jennifer Lopez when the singer was still on Diddy’s arm at the 2000 Grammy Awards and the shooting at Club New York.
“Still see the Lil Kim crying,” he recalls of the ill-fated night of Biggie’s death. As for his love life, Diddy lamented that “all the women that I love / they make the best decisions.” But that all changed with J.Lo more or less.
“Then I met this Puerto Rican girl / She put me to the test / Grammy night I had my baby looking like the best,” he raps. “I put her in that J.Lo dress / I loved her in that J.Lo dress / But when the shots rang out J.Lo left, damn.”
Those shots allude to the shooting at Club New York in 1999 where a patron felt dissed after the Bad Boy leader knocked down one of his drinks. Shots were fired, but everyone ended up alive.
The Diddy-backed site, Revolt, has been sharing gems from the tour lately. Last week, Revolt premiered Shyne’s surprising video performance of “Bad Boyz.”
We’re just wondering how Cassie feels about that J.Lo dress line though. Either way, check out Diddy’s performance above.
