DMX has been hospitalized after he collapsed in a hotel parking lot Monday, police in Westchester, New York confirmed to The Daily News.
The rapper fell unconscious outside of a Ramada Inn in Yonkers, and was reportedly not breathing and without a pulse when officers arrived. Police immediately began performing CPR and were able to revive the rapper approximately one minute later.
A representative for DMX did not immediately reply for a request for comment.
According to TMZ, DMX is now in stable condition at the hospital where he was treated. He is not expected to be charged with a crime for the incident.
“This was an excellent job by the officers and they definitely saved the life,” Lt. Patrick McCormack told The Daily News, though per privacy laws he did not refer to DMX by name. “They found him in a lifeless condition with no breathing. They were able to bring back some breathing.”
While DMX’s collapse was initially thought to be brought on by an asthma attack — he’s long had issues with the respiratory condition — a witness told police he saw the rapper ingest a powdery substance before he fell. Police also reportedly gave the rapper Narcan, a frequently used antidote for drug overdoses, before taking him to the hospital.
In July, DMX was sentenced to six months in jail for failing to pay $400,000 in child support, but was released after two months when a judge tabled his sentence. However, he was arrested again in December after missing a court hearing.
