Drake mania has reached a fever pitch. And if the sales figures hold up, the Toronto rhymer might be the biggest-selling rap star of 2016. According to Drizzy, his latest album, Views, sold a whopping 630,000 copies in one day.
The OVO Sound leader made a surprise appearance at Toronto’s Air Canada Center (aka Jurassic Park), where fans were watching Game 6 between the Raptors and the Indiana Pacers, to perform a quick set. According to reports, Drake performed “Energy” for the crowd. Afterward, he delivered some exciting news.
“I got a text message that we sold like 630,000 something records in one night,” he said. “That’s the first time I’ve ever done that s—.”
As of now, Drake’s Views will remain an iTunes/Apple Music exclusive for one week before hitting other digital platforms, which will most likely boost his sales even more.
Even Justin Bieber – without dreadlocks – made an appearance to congratulate Drake on his album release.
Overall, it was a celebratory night for the 6 God. “I love everybody in this city,” he told the crowd. “I love this city. I’ll die for this city.”
