Drake's 'Views' Is Still No. 1, But Sales Numbers Drop 79% in the 2nd Week news

Drake fans–there’s good news and there’s bad news.

First, the good news: Drake’s Views is still the No. 1 album in the country. Views… hit 1.04 million sales plus streaming units in its first week, and the album hit another 175,000 copies this past week. That’s more than Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool, which saw 181,000 SPS units, 173,000 sales this week–it’s first.

And Drizzy crossed the platinum mark in traditional sales–the first artist to do so with an album released in 2016.

The bad news? Views dropped 79% after it’s first week of release. That’s one of the worst sales dropoffs ever for a rap act. The other major project to which Views has been compared, Beyonce‘s Lemonade, dropped only 59% in week 2–on the strength of some of the best reviews of the singer’s career.

It isn’t hard to ascertain why Drake’s fourth album had such a large drop. Views had been one of the year’s most anticipated releases, but it’s also received a very tepid response from fans and critics. The less-than-enthused reception likely contributed to the massive drop in week 2. But Drake suffered a similar dip in the second week after the release of What A Time To Be Alive, his 2015 collaborative project with Future.

But that’s only relatively bad news. With those sales numbers, the OVO leader still has plenty to be happy about. And he’s coming off of another well-received appearance on “SNL.” And his hometown Toronto Raptors are headed to the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals.

It’s still very much Drizzy season, all things considered.
