On July 4, Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda released their duet “Love Make the World Go Round.” They recorded the track in response to the tragic shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Tuesday night, the pair took their song to the masses with a touching performance on The Tonight Show. The performance, which served as the song’s live debut, featured Lopez wearing a dramatic, stained-glass dress singing simply into the microphone. Miranda appears about halfway through for his rapped portion, and then the two finish off by dueting together.
“Love Make the World Go Round” can be purchased on iTunes here, with all the proceeds going to Proyecto Somos Orlando. The organization is a local non-profit organization that is striving to support the victims of the shooting as well as their family members and other loved ones.
This is just the latest effort from celebrities in the music industry to reach out and help after the tragic shooting in Orlando. A large group of celebrities, including Brittany Spears, Gwen Stefani, Pink, Imagine Dragons, and more, recently released a video for their original song “Hands,” the proceeds of which also go to benefit victims of the shooting. Others have paid tribute through social media posts, online videos, and more. This has included everyone from Frank Ocean to Justin Bieber, Kid Cudi, and Vic Mensa. It’s also brought up discussions of the presence of homophobia in our society, and in hip-hop in particular.
