No offense to your Doritos-addled roommate, but Family Guy has been coasting on some serious washed vibes for a few years now. That's why Sunday's seemingly belated (but actually impeccably timed) riffing on the Great Jay Z Elevator Fiasco of 2014 has made some serious waves, which is a very nice way of saying the show briefly didn't reek of washedness.
In one of the show's classic (overused?) cutaway bits, resident goofball Peter Griffin recalls that time he found himself on an elevator with Jay, Solange, and Beyoncé. As Solange lunges at Jay, Peter Griffin is seen, well, very much acting like Peter Griffin as he spouts off nonsense about needing a room key for the pool and the importance of keeping a white suit crisp and clean.
The actual elevator incident took place at the Met Gala in 2014, sparking a whirlwind of breakup rumors. Jay, Beyoncé, and Solange all walked into an elevator en route to an after-party at the Standard Hotel in New York City before the apparent dispute was caught on surveillance footage later obtained by TMZ.
In a joint statement released soon after the footage shook up headlines, the three elevator occupants attempted to clarify what went down by promising the whole fam had put it all behind them. "Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred," the statement to the Associated Press revealed. "They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."
The Family Guy episode debuted just days after Solange released A Seat at the Table, her third album featuring collabs with Kelly Rowland, Lil Wayne, Sampha, and more. Solange also released a pair of visuals for the tracks "Cranes in the Sky" and "Don't Touch My Hair" this weekend.
