After releasing his debut single “Trap Queen” in 2014, Fetty Wap experienced an impressively fast rise to the top. His self-titled album featured a slew of hits, three of which (“Trap Queen,” “My Way,” and “679”) were simultaneously listed on the Billboard’s Hot 100 charts—a feat no rapper has accomplished since Eminem in 2013.

With all the commercial and critical success that his first album garnered, it’s no wonder why many are eager to hear what the New Jersey rapper/singer is going to deliver next. Though we’ve already heard of a couple tracks off his sophomore album, the most recent being “Different Now,” Fetty has kept the project’s details to a minimum; however, in a recent interview with Billboard, he did say that the record will be “more mature.”

“It’s definitely still the party sound […] Me and Monty, that’s what we do; we make party music, club music.” he said during the filmed interview. “But it’s just more […] mature now. Definitely a more mature sound from me now.”

Fetty went on to explain that he’s made an effort to steer away from the sound featured in “Trap Queen,” because he wanted to demonstrate his range as an rapper.

“I felt like it was time for me to figure out what kind of artist I want to be, and I think I found it,” he said. “I took my time, I wrote more, and I focused on this one. My sophomore gotta be more mature.”

Fetty also confirmed that the album will be released before the end of the year, and that he might drop another single before then. You can check out the full interview above.
