Freddie Gibbs has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman while on tour last year in Vienna.

A spokesman for Vienna’s criminal court told Reuters that Gibbs is accused of allegedly “administering knock-out drops to a woman” and “abused her sexually while she was in a defenseless state.” The incident allegedly happened in July 2015.

The Indiana rhymer was arrested in June before a show in France and then subsequently extradited to Austria, where he will remain in custody until a trial. Gibbs, whose real name is Fredrick Tipton, was charged on Tuesday (Aug. 16) with “sexual abuse of a defenseless or psychologically impaired person.”

The rapper’s Vienna-based lawyer, Thomas Kralik, said his client had neither abused nor had sexual contact with the woman.

“He strenuously denies (the accusations),” he said.

Gibbs’ U.S. attorney, Theodore Simon, also maintains that his client is innocent in the case.

“While Freddie Gibbs was charged with an offense today, it remains only an allegation, and it does not in any way change the actual facts that Freddie Gibbs is 100% innocent,” he said in a press release (via The FADER). “He continues to pursue every available means to demonstrate that he is absolutely innocent and that he has been both belatedly and wrongly accused.”

If convicted, Freddie Gibbs faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
