It looks like Freddie Gibbs will be stuck in a France jail for the next several days. The rapper’s extradition hearing that was scheduled for Tuesday (June 7) has been postponed.
The 33-year-old rhymer was arrested last week in the French city of Toulouse on an European warrant from Austria. According to Austrian officials, Gibbs is accused of committing an alleged rape in 2015.
During the hearing, Gibbs’ attorney, Michael Malta, told the judge that the Indiana rapper “absolutely denies” the rape allegations and plans to fight extradition to Austria.
“Freddie Gibbs has indicated to the court that he would not be willing to be handed over to Austrian authorities without exercising his rights to a [defense],” he said (via Malay Mail Online.
“He categorically denies the accusations made against him in Austria,” he added. “He is even very surprised that Austria could act on this a year later, while he was on tour in Europe.”
Gibbs’ lawyers are seeking bail but the request won’t be reviewed by a judge until next Tuesday (June 13). The rapper’s next hearing is set for Thursday (June 16).
We hope that Freddie Gibbs can get a fair legal defense and clear himself of these charges.
