Freddie Gibbs Has Been Granted Bail By French Court, Extradition Hearing Next Week news

Rapper Freddie Gibbs has been granted bail.

The hip-hop star, born Fredrick Tipton, was arrested on June 2 in France before he was set to perform at the Rex in Paris; a European warrant had been issued by Austria in connection to an alleged rape that was committed in 2015. According to the Daily Mail, a judge in Toulouse was convinced by Gibbs’ French attorneys, Ludovic Riviere and Michael Malka, to release the star rapper on bail of €50,000.00 (approx. $56,357,00 USD.)

Gibbs has remained in French jail until today, when a French court has ordered that Gibbs be released. His release comes a week before his extradition hearing.

The Law Offices of Scott E. Leemon, P.C. issued a statement explaining that Gibbs will be required to turn in his passport and check in with authorities three times per week. Leemon has been meeting with Gibbs and prosecutors from France and Austria. The court will rule on his extradition on June 23, according to his lawyer Michael Malka.

“He categorically denies the allegations made against him by Austria and is even very surprised that Austria is taking this on a year later, just as he is on tour in Europe,” Malka said last week.
