Harry Styles Lands Role in Christopher Nolans WW2 Drama Alongside Tom Hardy news

Harry Styles is set to vastly improve his post-One Direction existence by starring in next year’s Dunkirk, directed by Dark Knight juggernaut Christopher Nolan. Though the nature of Styles’ role has not been revealed, Variety confirmed the casting of both the former (?) One Directioner and Fionn Whitehead on Friday.

As is generally the case with any Nolan project, specifics regarding pretty much everything about the production will presumably remain neatly tucked away in a locked safe buried somewhere in an undisclosed desert for months to come. However, we do know this much: Styles joins a cast that already includes Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Mark Rylance. Shot using both Imax-friendly 65mm and 65mm large format film, Dunkirk will center on the Operation Dynamo evacuation by British military forces that ultimately saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

The remarkable rescue operation, as noted by Deadline, was memorably used by director Joe Wright as the setting for his legendary tracking shot in the James McAvoy-starring Atonement:

The rest of Dunkirk will reportedly be made up of “mostly unknowns,” following an extensive casting process. The film, which was also penned by Christopher Nolan, is set for release on July 21 of next year. At time of publication, Nolan was still refraining from revealing his favorite One Direction song.
