Calvin Harris unveiled a new single on Friday titled “My Way.”
Calvin Harris pours his emotions on the dance floor in the impassioned breakup anthem, "My Way." "I made my move and it was all about you," the Scottish DJ sings. "Now I feel so far removed." The breezy, predictable melody rises and falls in waves driven forward by an unwavering kick drum. Only the string section draws out the song's inherent melancholy.
Harris' big pop singles usually feature collaborations with singers like Rihanna, Haim, Ellie Goulding, or rappers like Big Sean. But "My Way" is a rare exception that finds Harris stepping beyond the booth for the first time in years. The last time he sang on one of his own tracks was for his 2014 hit "Summer," and before that, "Feel So Close," a single that originally came out in 2011. Both were hit songs on American radio.
This year, Harris has focused on collaborations: "This Is What You Came For," with Rihanna and co-written by Taylor Swift, "Hype," which featured Dizzee Rascal and "Ole," which reunited Harris with John Newman. "This Is What You Came For" is currently at No. 7 on the Hot 100. It climbed all the way to No. 3 earlier this summer.
