Hear Los Lonely Boys' 'Born on the Bayou' From New Creedence Tribute news

In 2013, Creedence Clearwater Revival leader John Fogerty released Wrote a Song for Everyone, a collection of Creedence classics featuring an array of country and rock special guests, from Miranda Lambert to Foo Fighters. Next month, some of those same CCR songs appear in an entirely different form on Quiero Creedence, a tribute to the swampy Sixties rock band by Latin artists, including Los Lobos, Juanes and Ozomatli. ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons also appears, teaming up with La Santa Cecilia singer Marisol Hernandez on “Green River.”

Sibling trio Los Lonely Boys deliver one of the project’s most stirring numbers, a greasy, gritty take on “Born on the Bayou.” (Watch the song’s lyric video above).

“Recording ‘Born on the Bayou’ was such a rock & roll blessing, and it was such an honor to pay tribute to one of the best bands in history,” says singer-guitarist Henry Garza. “We love CCR and this song has always been one of our personal favorites. The guitar riff alone always gave me chills because it’s just so simply badass.”

Bassist-vocalist Jojo Garza concurs. “Not only was it one of our all-time CCR favorites, but the song speaks volumes about where someone comes from. We really didn’t learn that till later in our years, but it makes perfect sense now,” he says.

To that end, Los Lonely Boys alter the final chorus, singing, “born in el barrio.” It’s a slight but effective change, one that elevates an oft-played song into something fresh and more personal.

Quiero Creedence will be released July 29th.
