Nas and Erykah Badu have joined forces for the brooding and gorgeous new song "This Bitter Land." The track, streaming exclusively below, will appear on the soundtrack for The Land, an upcoming film executive-produced by Nas and Machine Gun Kelly.
On the song, Badu delivers one of her most Nina Simone-esque vocal performances, letting her voice lurch and stretch over the sound of stringed instruments. Nas offers a biting, invigorating verse in which he reflects on youth and the struggles one faces while fighting for success.
Both The Land and its soundtrack will be out July 29th. The film tells the tale of Cleveland teenagers who are part of the Midwestern city's underground hip-hop scene. The skateboarders find themselves caught up in a dangerous drug deal that could ruin their relationships and futures. Badu is part of the film's ensemble alongside Kelly and The Wire's Michael K. Williams.
Many elite names in hip-hop and R&B are part of the film's soundtrack. Pusha T, Jeremih, Kanye West, French Montana and more contributed songs to the independent film. The soundtrack is currently available for pre-order.
