Shawn Mendes debuted three new songs during his sold-out concert at Radio City Music Hall Saturday, including the heartbreaking song “Ruin.”
Though it’s still in the acoustic-pop vein of Mendes’ debut album Handwritten, “Ruin” takes a bluesier turn. His performance of the track includes Mendes strumming on an electric guitar and turning the coda of “Do I ever cross your mind?” into a sing-a-long for fans. During the show, Mendes also premiered “Like This” and “Three Empty Words.”
The 17-year-old singer-songwriter’s debut LP debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 and its single “Stitches” proved to be a breakout hit for the former Vine star, peaking at Number Four. In November, Mendes released Handwritten Revisited, with live versions of his songs off the album as well as new songs like single “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” featuring Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello.
Mendes’ Radio City date launches a string of headlining dates around the world this year. In April, he will begin playing in Europe before returning to North America in July. Mendes opened for Taylor Swift on her 1989 world tour last year.
