Sting stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night unleashing his high velocity rendition of "Next To You." The song will appear on his next studio album, 57th & 9th.
He performed the back-to-basics track with help from his current backing band, the Last Bandoleros, who added punch and smooth backing vocals. "Next To You" is a brusque blast of energy, reflecting the overall direction of the new album. "It's rockier than anything I've done in a while," Sting told Rolling Stone. "This record is a sort of omnibus of everything that I do, but the flagship seems to be this energetic thing. I'm very happy to put up the mast and see how it goes."
"Most of it was done in an impulsive way," added producer Marin Kierszenbaum. "One or two takes. I don't think he's rocked like this since Synchronicity."
57th & 9th does not yet have an official release date.
