Joey Bada$$’ upcoming show at Irving Plaza in New York City has been canceled, according to a tweet from the rapper. Joey didn’t go into detail about why the show, which was scheduled for tomorrow, was canceled, but it’s not hard to put two and two together following the shooting at the venue last week during T.I.’s show. As of right now, the show is still listed on the Irving Plaza website, though Joey has already tweeted out an alternate location for a show so his fans won’t be left out to dry.
Interestingly enough, Joey said the NYPD was behind the cancelation of the show, though when reached for comment, a spokesmen for the NYPD said they were not aware of anything. This type of reaction to the shooting, which resulted in Troy Ave being arrested and charged with attempted murder, was somewhat expected, but is an unfortunate byproduct of a sad situation. It will now be interesting to see if other rap shows on the books at Irving Plaza in the near future are also canceled, or allowed to go on.
Currently, the likes of Vince Staples, Mac Miller, A$AP Ferg, Lil Uzi Vert, and more are all slated to perform at the venue at some point in June. We’ve reached out to reps for both Joey Bada$$ and Irving Plaza for comment on this story and will continue to update when more details are made available.
