Joey Bada$$ Freestyles Over Iconic West Coast Beats

Joey Bada$$ might be known for how his rap style pays homage to classic New York City hip-hop, but today, he kicked it West Coast style and still killed it. Joey stopped by Los Angeles’ Power 106 radio station, and while he was there, he decided to spit a little freestyle over some classic California rap songs. He took on “Bow Down” by Westside Connection, “Deep Cover” by Dr. Dre, and “Calling Out Names” by Kurupt, freestyling over each beat with ease.

“It’s clear we’re taking over/Anybody in my lane I bet he’s switching over/Cuz trust me when we rolling up, it ain’t just the doja/All my brothers soldiers/Nothing like you posers/Move in silence like real G’s supposed to/I ain’t say I’m with the violence, but it’s when I’m close to/When you’re dealing this much bread, you could use a toaster,” he spits.

This is far from Joey’s first hot radio freestyle. He made some huge waves back in March when he came at Troy Ave over his comments about Joey and Capital Steez. He also had some fun alongside Kirk Knight and Nyck Caution back in February, freestyling together and giving each other words to work into their rhymes. It’s good to see him keeping his skills sharp while we wait for news on his next album. You can check out his freestyle in the video above.
