John Legend is set to perform at the dedication of a recently renovated $2.5 million theater named in his honor, Billboard reports.

Legend donated $500,000 for the project and will perform at the ribbon-cutting ceremony which will take place on Oct. 9. The John Legend Theater at the Springfield Center of Innovation: The Dome, is a 680-seat venue, and houses several education programs, including the Greater Springfield CareerConnectED Center.

The center allows students to explore several areas including creative arts, digital media and welding. It’s also home to the Global Impact STEM Academy and labs are under construction for several Clark State Community College degree program, reports Springfield News-Sun.  The paper reports the school district has been looking for the opportunity to bring a fully equipped theater to Springfield students since 2008.

In addition to the theater honor, Legend is set to play Fredrick Douglass on the popular WGN series, Underground. Legend, who also serves as executive producer of the critically-acclaimed series, will make a cameo as Douglass but it’s unknown if he will be a recurring character during the 10-episode run of the second season.
