Kanye West’s connected with G.O.O.D. Music signee Desiigner on the official “Tiimmy Turner” remix.
The official Kanye West remix of Desiigner's "Tiimmy Turner" arrived on Friday. Kanye's verse mostly sticks to the subdued, ominous vibe of the original – "Everybody just got made alert," he raps, "You might get killed on your way to work." But he briefly punctures the solemnity with a defiant shout-out to several of his idols: "I'm the new Steve, mixed with Ali," he declares. "'Bout to get freed, I'm the new Walt/ Fuck what you thought/ Man fuck all of y'all." The song originally surfaced online last month.
West has played an important role in Desiigner's career since he included an extended snippet of the young Brooklyn rapper's "Panda" on The Life of Pablo in February. Subsequently, "Panda" rocketed into the Hot 100 and became a No. 1 hit; fittingly, Kanye also appeared in the video for the track. Desiigner is signed to Kanye's label, G.O.O.D. Music.
Like "Panda," "Tiimmy Turner" has an interesting origin story: Desiigner unveiled the dirge-like hook during an XXL Freshman Freestyle over the summer. The response to the track encouraged him to flesh it out into a full song, which he did with help from West associate Mike Dean. Though it didn't match the heights of "Panda," "Tiimmy Turner" also became a hit, climbing to No. 34 on the Hot 100.
"I'm working on a whole lot of bangers," the rapper told Rolling Stone in July. "I'm making movies, you feel me? The album will come out maybe the top of next year – but I'm a true artist. I might drop an album tomorrow!"
