Keith Urban Teams With Pitbull on Sun Dont Let Me Down: The Ram Report news

Two years after collaborating with Jerrod Niemann on “Drink to That All Night,” Pitbull is dipping his toes in the country music pool again. The rap superstar contributes a verse to “Sun Don’t Let Me Down,” a new song on Keith Urban’s upcoming Ripcord album.

“He brings a mischievous, sexy swagger to it, in a very different way,” Urban tells Rolling Stone of Pitbull’s vocals on the song.

“Sun Don’t Let Me Down” also features funk legend Nile Rodgers on guitar. Urban is a longtime fan of the Chic frontman and had been wanting to work with him for years.

“A lot of last year was spent experimenting with people who could bring different things to the album,” says Urban. “With Nile, it was the guitar playing that drew me in. I had a real simple desire to play with him, to see what kind of fusion we could create together. I’ve got a six-string banjo, and I’ve played along with records Nile played on, and they just paired up beautifully. I wanted to see if we could rhythmically click like that in the studio. So we got into the studio, and he had a guitar and I had a banjo, and we just played to a loop. It was great.”

“Sun Don’t Let Me Down” also tips its hat to Urban’s wife, Nicole Kidman. A line in the song directly references a scene from her 1995 movie, To Die For, in which she’s dancing in front of car headlights.

We’ll be able to hear “Sun Don’t Let Me Down” on May 6th, when Keith Urban’s Ripcord album hits stores.
