Kelly Clarkson Plots Soulful Album: The Ram Report news

For her next album, Kelly Clarkson is doing things completely her way.

The pop powerhouse has left RCA Records after 14 years and more than 25 million albums sold. She signed with the label just after winning the inaugural season of American Idol — and while grateful for her success and all of the hard work RCA put into her career, she likens it to “an arranged marriage.” Her new deal, however, seems to put Clarkson in the driver’s seat all by herself. She announced via a live Facebook stream Friday that she has signed with Atlantic Records and was visibly elated at the creative control coming her way.

“[For the] first time in my career, 15 years later. . . I actually got to pick who I got to work with and I was very excited to see who would be excited to work with me,” she told fans via her Facebook video.

“I’m so excited because they want to make the album that I’ve been dying to make since I was a kid,” she continued. “Everybody’s been asking me to make a soulful record for years and while we’ve always had soulful influences on my record, we’ve never actually made a soulful record. So, that’s what Atlantic Records and I are about to do.”

Clarkson added that it’s also a longtime dream of her mom’s, to see her make a soul-drenched LP. The Texas native has also been hinting for years that a country album is in her future. And while it looks like holding our breath on that is not advised, she still insists it’s coming. . . someday.
