Kendrick Lamar‘s Grammy night is off to a great start. The Compton rapper has already landed three big awards on the night; taking home the golden gramophone for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Alright,” and K. Dot landed Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “These Walls” alongside Bilal, Thundercat and Anna Wise.
Kendrick is expected to be a major force throughout the night; the emcee is performing and is up for the Best Album award, which hip-hop fans everywhere have their eyes on. If Kendrick nabs “the big one,” he’ll be only the third hip-hop artist to take home the award. Lauryn Hill won Best Album in 1999 for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and OutKast won it in 2004 for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
K. Dot has already indicated that he will be doing something “provocative” for his Grammy performance and his album To Pimp A Butterfly has been one of the most acclaimed albums of the year. It’s very, very good to be Kendrick Lamar right now.
