It’s no secret that Killer Mike is one of the most vocal supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Bernie Sanders. In a fiery speech during the primary election in South Carolina on Saturday (Feb. 27), the Atlanta rhymer called out fellow presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on her treatment of Black Lives Matters protesters.
In the video above, Killer Mike explains the difference between how Sanders and Clinton treats two black women who are protesting at their rallies. Sanders stands back and listens, while Clinton simply ignores them and have them promptly removed.
“When you have an opportunity to tell two black girls to ‘shut up and get off stage,’ and you don’t and you shake their hand and smile and you step to the side and you listen, that is a firm difference from turning around and staring at a little black girl and saying, ‘Shut up. I’ll talk to you later. You’re being rude.’ Or allowing people to say that to her,” he said.
The video juxtaposes Mike’s comments to that of images of Sanders participating in protests during the civil rights movement and being violent escorted by racist police. In essence, Mike is saying that Sanders understands the issues regarding race while Clinton does not.
Despite Killer Mike’s passionate speech to voters, Clinton won the primary in a landslide victory, capturing 73 percent of the vote, with 100 percent of precincts reporting. Bernie Sanders captured 26 percent of the vote. Clinton won 84 percent of the black vote, while Sanders only garnered 16 percent.
Afterward, Sanders admitted that he was decimated in the South Carolina primary but sees a major victory going into Super Tuesday.
“Let me be clear on one thing tonight. This campaign is just beginning,” he said. “We won a decisive victory in New Hampshire. She won a decisive victory in South Carolina. Now it’s on to Super Tuesday.”
