Fans of young rappers, cooler-than-thou models, and Skrillex are in for a treat this September—looks like the #WangSquad is back. Designer Alexander Wang has made something of a habit of populating his ads and social media accounts with an army of the current and next big things in youth culture, as he did last season with his inaugural Wang Squad campaign, featuring Vic Mensa, Travi$ Scott, and Cindy Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber. Now, the New York-based talent has taken to Instagram to tease another group of stars repping his label for fall, including Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Big Sean, Zoe Kravitz, and Vince Staples.
The first look at the fall lineup consists of Polaroid snaps of each participant, similar to the initial rollout for spring; that was also previewed on social media in advance of the release of Wang’s official campaign images, which were shot in bars, apartments, and at least one hardware store across the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Returning for another go-round are some of Wang’s most frequently-used models, including Binx Walton, Anna Ewers, and Hanne Gaby. Rounding out the collective are A$AP Ferg, Tinashe, producers RL Grime and Metro Boomin, artist (and Supreme fave) Lucien Smith, and pro skater Curren Caples.
For Kylie, this campaign marks yet another notch in her high-fashion belt, after also appearing in a Balmain ad alongside her sister Kendall last summer. The presence of names like Vince Staples and A$AP Ferg should also come as no surprise to those who have followed Wang’s career. The designer has long been inspired by hip-hop music and the influence rappers exert over the world of fashion. As he told Complex last month, “Hip-hop music, to me, is the most relevant genre of music right now that speaks to me and our generation,” adding that rappers are “the leaders of this movement.”
