Lady Gaga paid glorious homage to the late David Bowie at the 2016 Grammy Awards on Monday night (Feb. 15) by performing a medley of the famously ever-shifting artist’s songs.

Unlike the other tributes, Lady Gaga sang the tribute to Bowie, who passed away in January, on her own. She did have musical backing from former Bowie collaborator Nile Rodgers, who supported her on guitar and soul star Raphael Saadiq on bass.

The performance began with a close-up shot of Gaga with a variety of Bowie’s different makeup looks projected onto her face. Walking onstage dressed in an ornate white cape, she revealed a matching white jumpsuit underneath as she sang Bowie’s classic “Changes.” Gaga then moved to piano to perform “Suffragette City” on a robotic keyboard that danced along to the rhythm of the music.  The innovative stage setup for the Grammy performance was built by Intel.

Gaga moved through Bowie classics like “Rebel Rebel,” “Fashion” and “Fame” with a number of dancers on the stage — ready to vogue and waack their way through the performance.

Rodgers then played the opening riffs of “Under Pressure,” Bowie’s collaboration with Queen and segued into Bowie’s uber-hit “Let’s Dance.” As Gaga and Nile Rodgers moved into the spotlight, the performance ended triumphantly with a funkier, dance version of the English rocker’s anthemic “Heroes.” The epic rendition was a stirringly bittersweet performance, but fans were left feeling less sad about the loss of a legend than happy to celebrate his innovative and enduring music.
