Lebron James Brings the Title to Cleveland; Jay Z, Chance the Rapper and Others React news

Lebron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to the mountaintop. The superstar forward scored 27 points and posted the first triple double in an NBA Finals Game 7 since James Worthy in 1988, as the Cavs defeated the powerhouse Golden State Warriors 93-89 at Oracle Arena in Oakland Sunday night (June 19.)

Warriors forward Draymond Green was stellar throughout the night, finishing with 32 points on 11/15 shooting, but two-time league MVP Steph Curry struggled throughout the night, netting 17 points on 6/19 shooting and only 4/14 from three point range. That and the poor shooting of Klay Thompson–coupled with the brilliance of James–proved to be the Warriors downfall.

James was named Finals MVP, having averaged 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists with a field goal percentage of 53.3. He became the third player to record a triple-double in Game 7 of the Finals, joining Jerry West in 1969 and James Worthy in 1988.

The Cavs came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Warriors, sparked by James and Kyrie Irving, to bring the city of Cleveland it’s first professional sports championship since 1964. James made good on the promise he gave the city when he returned to the Cavs in 2014 after having departed Cleveland in 2010 for the Miami Heat, where he won his first two championships.

“I came back to bring a championship to this city. I gave everything that I had. I put my heart, my blood, my sweat and my tears into this game. And against all odds…I don’t know why we wanted to take the hardest road. I don’t know why the man above gave us the hardest road.”

“Instead of saying ‘why me,’ I said ‘this is what he wants me to do.’” Lebron added, before shouting, “Cleveland! This is for you!”

Hip-hop stars like Jeezy, Nicki Minaj and Jay Z reacted to the big win aroudn social media. “Wow one of the best finals ever,” tweeted Jay Z. “So proud of King James. Salute Warriors. Happy Father’s Day to all.”
