Clearly, at least one church agrees with Kanye West that The Life of Pablo is truly a gospel album, and they’ve got his lyrics on their sign to prove it. St. Andrews Church, a church in Hornchurch, London, nixes the usual bible verse and instead opts for words of wisdom from Kanye to serve up some thought provoking encouragement.
“You’re not perfect, but you’re not your mistakes,” the sign reads, quoting Kanye’s Paul McCartney collaboration, “Only One.” This particular track didn’t end up making the final cut of his album The Life of Pablo, but it clearly holds the gospel message that Kanye seamlessly wove into the fabric of his music. A picture of the sign was posted by Hornchurch local Elliott Walsh, who clearly enjoyed the message, on Facebook. “I’m not really a religious man but i always look forward to the messages the priest leaves me at my local church, they are always a bit unchurchy and unpreachy,” he wrote.
This isn’t the first time “Only One” has stirred emotion. Back in 2015, several Complex staffers sat down to watch the song’s sentimental video starring Kanye, his daughter North West, and both their moms. We captured our staff’s genuine reactions on video, including one mom who even started to tear up while watching.
No word yet whether Kanye has seen the sign, but there’s little doubt that he would approve of a church recognizing the power of his music. There really is nothing better than a quick ‘Ye lyric to give you an instant dose of inspiration for the day.
