Major Lazer and Grandtheft join forces for “Number One,” where they remix Johnny Osbourne’s 1985 reggae classic, “Buddy Bye,” by warping it with a festival-ready touch. The song is just in time for Ultra Music Festival in Miami this weekend. “STRAIGHT FROM THE LAZER VAULT! NEW TRACK & FREE DOWNLOAD! NUMBER ☝ WITH OUR BROTHER Grandtheft!” Major Lazer captioned the track on Facebook. This isn't the first time Major Lazer has reworked Osbourne's music. If you remember, they sampled his vocals from “Mr. Marshall” for their collaboration with Flux Pavilion, “Jah No Partial,” in 2012.
Most recently, Major Lazer made history as the first major U.S. act to perform in Cuba since the two countries mended their diplomatic ties. Nearly 400,000 people attended the monumental event. You can watch Diplo discuss the importance of the event with CBS' Charlie Rose here. You can catch them live at one of their tour dates this year, including their next show at Coachella in April. Diplo actually hinted his other project Jack Ü will be releasing new music around that time. Until then, check out “Number One” below.
