Mary J. Blige Interviews Hillary Clinton About Police Brutality on Apple Music

Of course, we’ve all seen that incredibly uncomfortable clip of Mary J. Blige serenading Hillary Clinton with a Bruce Springsteen song about police brutality. Now, Apple has released the entire 30-minute interview.

With the election inching closer, a lot of rappers and singers are being even more vocal about their support for Hillary Clinton. One artist who is down to ride with Hillary Clinton during her journey to the White House is Mary J. Blige. By teaming up with Apple Music, she launched her very own talk show aptly titled, The 411. In her 30 minute interview with Clinton, she addressed the current fight against police brutality, and the voters’ perception of the presidential hopeful.

In the eyes of Clinton, she feels that she hasn’t changed one bit, though through the eyes of voters, they see things a bit differently.

“I think I’ve always been the same person,” Clinton said. “I do believe that when you’re in the public eye, whether it’s in entertainment or it’s in politics, you do have the challenge of presenting yourself and having people perceive you as who you think you are. So for me, I’ve always been someone who feels very blessed, very fortunate. I have a very supportive upbringing and family and my faith has guided and lifted me up over the years. I’ve been given the honor of trying to help people and serve people.”

In terms of finding ways to overcome police brutality, Clinton had this to say: “I have been so heartbroken over what’s been going on because it’s fundamentally at odds with and wrong that African American parents have to sit their children down and deliver the message that you just sang. And yet we still have so many terrible deaths, some at the hands of police, many at the hands of others, like Trayvon Martin.”

Clinton insisted that American must embrace a “greater opening of our hearts” to each other, particularly white people who aren’t yet “part of the solution.”
