Meek Mill can breathe a sigh of relief as he won’t be facing jail anytime soon. At a hearing on Friday (Feb. 5), the Philadelphia rapper was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest for violating his probation.

According to Newsworks, Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley ordered Meek to wear an ankle bracelet for three months and prohibited him to work. The only time he is allow to leave the house is to do his community service. The judge also added six years of probation. Meek will have to turn himself in on March 1 to get his bracelet and start his sentence.

During his hearing, several notable figures in the Philadelphia music scene took the stand to encourage the judge to be lenient on the 28-year-old rapper. Iconic Philadelphia soul producer Kenny Gamble, who is mentoring Meek, told the judge, “I don’t want to be involved with anything unless it’s gonna be for real. I’m not coming back here again.”

Meek also took the stand and told the judge that he understood the gravity of his situation and vows to abide by his probation. “Everything is riding on the line,” he said adding that money and ego affected his poor decisions early in his career.

Meek’s girlfriend, Nicki Minaj, was also at the hearing in support.

We are happy that Meek is not headed to jail because that would have crippled his career temporarily. Hopefully, during his three months of house arrest, Meek can reflect and focus on his music.
