Although Michael Jackson is no longer with us, his musical legacy continues to entertain us. At the 2016 Grammy Awards on Monday night (Feb. 15), Miguel reminded us of what made MJ such a pivotal figure in our lives. The R&B singer performed “She’s Out of My Life” in honor of the re-release of his 1979 breakthrough album, Off the Wall with the accompanying documentary directed by Spike Lee.
Joining the crooner on keyboards was Greg Phillinganes who performed on the original song. Although it was brief, about 30 seconds, Miguel did an adequate job relaying Jackson’s vocal reflections on his 1980 ballad.
Afterward, Miguel explained to the audience that it has been 35 years since Jackson won his first Grammy. The 30-year-old singer also noted that Spike Lee directed a phenomenal documentary, Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall, which will arrive in stores on Feb. 26.
“It’s an album that broke down pop barriers,” he said.
Viewers watching Miguel’s performance were excited to see him perform but was disappointed at his short set. Check out what fans had to say below:
