So @mick and I have bn discussing a co-remix album for a good 4 yrs now. We've finally landed here on March 9th with a @metroboomin inspired "future"-istic Biggie Day tribute. Link in bio! Amazing art by @nickychulo Big thank you @highsnobiety /@perstephon3 / @jeffcarvalho / @livemixtapes for the world premier!
In honor of the 19th anniversary of The Notorious B.I.G.’s murder, MICK (fka Mick Boogie) and Chi Duly mixed some famous verses from the Brooklyn legend with hitmaking producer Metro Boomin’s beats to create a tribute mixtape aptly titled Ready to Boom.
The title is obviously a play on Biggie’s debut album, Ready to Die and Metro Boomin’s moniker; and the final product is a prime listening experience. It includes Biggie’s verses from “Juicy” and “Come On” over Boomin’s “Waves” and “Where Ya At?” respectively.
“We thought it would be cool to remix Biggie with a very contemporary vibe and kind of trap him out a little bit,” said Mick in an interview with High Snobiety. “We wanted to introduce him to a new audience so they can appreciate his genius, too.”
As for the mixtape art, Mick and Duly combined Boomin’s hair with the famous baby from Biggie’s Ready to Die album cover. The face of MICK’s seven-month-old son, Myles is also featured on the cover.
Now the only question is would Young Metro trust this mix? There’s no exact word on what he thinks about the mix but Boomin did retweet an article about it — so we think it’s safe to say we’re all good.
This isn’t the first time Big Poppa’s rhymes have been placed over epic beats — he’s also featured on a mix with music from Star Wars in Life After Death Star.
Check out the mix below and let us know what you think in the comments below. Also, check out what tweeters are saying about the mixtape below.
