Good news for fans of the late rapper Phife Dawg. The legendary A Tribe Called Quest co-founder will be honored with a street named after him.

According to Okayplayer, Phife Dawg’s management team has confirmed that New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is signing a bill to have Linden Blvd. and 192nd street renamed to Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor. The official announcement of the street renaming will happened on Wednesday (Aug. 3) at City Hall in lower Manhattan.

The intersection of Linden Blvd. and 192nd St. is in Queens, N.Y., is the place where ATCQ rapped about on the classic song, “Check the Rhyme.” It was there that he and childhood friend Q-Tip formed the group along with Jarobi White and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

Phife Dwag passed away on March 22 from complications from Type-2 diabetes. He was 45 years old. Since his death, an online petition was posted to have a mural painted on the side of Nu-Clear Cleaners on Linden Boulevard where ACTQ shot their famed video for “Check the Rhyme.”

In April, a memorial concert was held at the Apollo Theater in honor of Phife Dawg. Artists such as Kanye West, Andre 3000, D’Angelo, Chuck D, the Roots and others paid homage to the Five-Foot Assassin.

“Anything I ever did wrong, blame [Q-]Tip and Phife ‘cause y’all raised me,” said West said of the group’s influence on hip-hop. “Tribe made it so I could dress funny.”

Overall, this street renaming for Phife Dawg is a huge honor not only for hip-hop but for Queens, N.Y.

Rest in peace, Phife.
