After Joker‘s triumphant The Mainframe album last year (“Midnight” remains a thoroughbred banger), we were all waiting to see what the Kapsize boss would do next. Turns out the answer was a brand new EP called Phoenix. “Planet D”, our favourite cut from the EP (which is out now), is a rousing, synth-led banger dripping in the treasured purplisms that we’ve come to love from Joker. It’s dramatic, deep and imbued with an undeniable groove. There’s also quite a few twists and turns in there, from the gentle, piano-led incline that lead to sawtooth synth riffs, space-age arpeggios and finally some good old fashioned space-age orchestral moments. A perfect club weapon for sure but we could even see some MCs hopping on this one.
