The “We Are Not Afraid” campaign, which was launched by New York music journalist Steve Weitzman, is a global initiative with the goal to stamp out violence, discrimination and hate that’s been happening in the U.S. and overseas. According to AllHipHop.com, Nigerian reggae artist Majek Fashek has produced a theme song for the “We Are Not Afraid” project with the proceeds benefitting Human Rights Watch and the International Rescue Committee.
A Kevin Godley-directed music video is currently underway, which features Questo and Chuck D showing their commitment to nonviolence and support for refugee rights. Other artists expected to make cameos in the clip include Nile Rodgers, George Clinton, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Elvis Costello, Debbie Harry and many more.
“The idea for ‘We Are Not Afraid’ resulted from the increasing senseless violence experienced by citizens of this world and a desire to try and make a difference by bringing awareness to the issues and organizations dedicated to helping the victims,” said Weitzman about the campaign. “It is imperative that we show the perpetrators of these horrible acts that are intended to shake us to our core that we will not be afraid, we will not be intimidated, and we will continue to demand a free and open global community.”
This news comes as Questlove launches a weekly three-hour Pandora Radio program in September called “Questlove Supreme,” where he will provide a mix of his favorite tracks and interview notable music celebrities.
Salute to Questlove and Chuck D for embarking on a notable cause with the “We Are Not Afraid” campaign.
