Rhymefest Posts Disturbing Video of How He Was Treated When Trying to Report a Robbery news

On Saturday morning, Chicago rapper Rhymefest went to Twitter to tell his followers he had just been robbed at gunpoint. The disturbing incident became even worse when he said he attempted to file a report at a police station, and was treated “disgustingly” by officers.

As pointed out by the Chicago Tribune, Rhymefest, whose real name is Che Smith, sent out a series of tweets shortly after the robbery went down.

At around 7:30 a.m., an unidentified man reportedly jumped into Rhymefest’s parked vehicle, pointed a gun at his head, and demanded his wallet. The 39-year-old said he did as he was told, before the robber jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

“You just put a gun in my face for $3 in my wallet,” he wrote on Twitter. “I defend you against police brutality, I work on your behalf you robbed me.”

Rhymefest then went to a police station near his home to report the crime; however, as seen in a video posted on his Twitter account, the exchange between him and the officers, became heated.

After the footage was posted—with the caption “You wonder we don’t report crimes? The police treated me disgustingly”—Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi reached out with an apology.

Rhymefest responded to Guglielmi by saying he has “no ill will towards police,” but he would like to sit down with him to “to talk about the culture that’s decaying” Chicago.

Rhymefest’s camp did not immediately respond to Complex’s request for comment. The suspect has yet to be caught, but the rapper has encouraged the man to come forward. You can read Rhymefest’s account of the events in the tweets below.
