Ricky Gervais Office Character Inspired by Braveheart, Simon & Garfunkel news

Ricky Gervais’ fussy character David Brent from the hit UK television show The Office is entering the music world. As part of the upcoming film David Brent: Life on the Road, Gervais is releasing a David Brent music album, RadioTimes reports.

“I sort of fused Braveheart with Simon & Garfunkel shit,” Gervais tweeted. Some of the song titles are “Native American” and “Please Don’t Make Fun of the Disabled,” said the report. Gervais co-wrote them with Andy Burrows of Razorlight and We Are Scientists. The new film takes place 12 years after The Office and follows his character’s band, Foregone Conclusion, on a UK tour.

Gervais’ latest release is Special Correspondents, a Netflix-exclusive movie. Gervais told Rolling Stone that he made both films on his own terms. “People think it’s arrogant when I say, ‘If you get final edit and it turned out exactly as you want, you’re bulletproof,'” he said. “Some people take that as meaning, ‘Oh, arrogant. He doesn’t take criticism.’ No. It means that I enjoy the creative process. I’ve always enjoyed doing it my way, because not getting your way is worse than anything. Luckily I’ve always sort of gotten my own way.”

David Brent: Life on the Road will be released on August 19th in the UK.
